SYNOPSIS

Mr. and Mrs. Kampfs are an extravagant couple who live in a luxurious apartment in Paris, and one day decide to organize a ball to enter the French high society to which they have long aspired.
Antoinette, their 14-year-old daughter, wants to attend the party but her mother forbids her, so she, to get revenge, decides to play a terrible prank on her. But her mother won’t be the only one to suffer the consequences.

REVIEW

From the very beginning to the end of the story I felt Antoinette’s anger and frustration as if I had become a teenager again. I also felt her mother’s agitation and worry about the party preparations and this mix of emotions made the reading time pass pleasantly. It’s a short, simple, but well-constructed story.
The third-person narrator provides a partial but at the same time objective vision of what happens in the story. The characters are coherent and respect the roles they play. The story takes place in a short time frame in which the most important moments are treated with greater attention and accuracy of details that allow the reader to follow the scenes as if they had already lived them. The composition of the dialogues and the description of places are precise and selective. And once you’ve finished reading you’re surprised by the author’s ability to convey a life experience common to many people, through a story that is apparently simple and superficial, but actually more complicated than one can imagine.
