SYNOPSIS

Aleutian Islands, 7000 BC
After losing her family because of a ruthless clan of hunters who wiped out her entire village, young Chagak lands on an island inhabited only by Shuganan, an elder who carves human and animal figures in ivory. As she tries to recover from the loss of her family, a hunter from the bloodthirsty tribe lands on the island and, to save themselves, Chagak and Shuganan commit an extreme act that they decide to keep secret. When a new group of men, women and children begins to live with them on the island, the young woman’s pain resurfaces and she will be forced to face it to ensure a future for her son.

REVIEW

It is the first book of a trilogy and it’s an interesting story that gets better towards the end. It isn’t full of twists and turns, however the reading flows pleasantly between the chores of Neolithic domestic life and the adventures of the protagonists to save their lives and those of another village in danger.
The author has created a novel with solid basis. A third-person narrator who accesses the thoughts of the main characters and allows a more complete vision of the facts. Dialogues that reflect the personality of each subject, and the main theme that is intuited without being too obvious. But above all, it’s the precise and detailed descriptions of objects, places and people that support the entire structure and enrich it, making the reader experience every moment, as if he were living it firsthand.
