SYNOPSIS

Tennis player Andre Agassi recounts his life marked by tennis, from when he was only four years old until the historic moment of his retirement. Constantly in conflict with himself, under pressure since childhood to become a great champion, and tormented by sports journalists for his extravagant look during matches, Agassi speaks openly of his hard training, loves, friendships, triumphs and defeats. Between ups and downs, excesses and deprivations, his sporting career is the central theme around which the gripping autobiographical narrative of a world-famous tennis player develops.

REVIEW

A truly exceptional read. Not only for the engaging style in which the events are narrated, but also and above all for Agassi’s determination to continue playing against all odds, to pull himself back together after a defeat and to encourage himself and the reader. More than an autobiography, it seemed to me like a coaching book to me and I really appreciated it. I’m not a tennis fan, but while he narrated his matches, I always supported him.
Autobiography written in the first person by the protagonist, and by the journalist and writer Moehringer who edited the text. The form of the speech is indirect, the dialogues merge with the descriptions and thoughts of the narrator as if they were a very long monologue but, in an excellent way, each element stands out and conveys its function very well. Finally, time is the most important characteristic that the narrator has been able to exploit in the decisive moments of the story, like a rope that expands and contracts, to attract the reader’s attention and enchant him until the end.
